Despite being the oldest presidential hopeful in U.S. history, if Republican frontrunner Donald Trump is elected, he "will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency," according to a note from his physician Harold Bornstein, MD.
Dr. Bornstein wrote a recent medical examination of Mr. Trump showed positive results and both his blood pressure, at 110/65, and his lab test results "were astonishingly excellent."
The 69-year-old candidate has lost 15 pounds in the past year, takes a daily aspirin and a low dose of a statin, according to the note. He has never had cancer, and he had surgery only once — an appendectomy at age 10. According to Dr. Bornstein, Mr. Trump has no history of drinking or smoking.
"I am fortunate to have been blessed with great genes — both of my parents had very long and productive lives. I have truly enjoyed working on the campaign trail with one objective in mind, to make America great again! People have been impressed by my stamina, but to me it has been easy because I am truly doing something that I love," Mr. Trump said in a statement.
A spokesman for President Barack Obama fired back at the claims Monday, according to coverage in The Hill. "Is the suggestion that Mr. Trump's doctor conducted a thorough medical examination of President Jefferson and President Adams?" Josh Earnest said, according to the report. "That's a lot of work — that's a lot of homework to do," he added, according to the report. "Forty-four presidents to take a look at."
