Conservative group to spend $2.6M on ads attacking Trump's Medicare drug pricing views

The conservative advocacy group American Action Network launched a $2.6 million campaign against allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices.

The campaign, which includes direct mail, print ads and digital ads, will span 53 congressional districts across the country. It takes aim at Democratic candidates who support Medicare drug price negotiation, but also Republican frontrunner Donald Trump who has said Medicare could save $300 billion a year if it could negotiate drug prices.

"We don't do it," he said in January. "Why? Because of the drug companies."

However, AAN argues that government negotiation of drug prices would be bad for seniors. It says drug price negotiations already happen in a competitive marketplace.

"This will cause seniors to have less access to the medicines they need," AAN President Mike Shields said in a statement. "Seniors currently have more choices with affordable premiums because the marketplace is negotiating the drug prices, not the government. We urge seniors to call on their Member of Congress to stand against this power grab for bureaucrats at the expense of seniors’ choice in medicine."
