CMS has issued a proposed rule on the release and use of Medicare Parts A, B and D claims data to qualified entities so that they may assess the performance of hospitals, physicians and other healthcare providers, according to an AHA News Now report.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires CMS to release standardized extracts of Medicare claims data to qualified entities beginning in 2012. The entities must request the data, pay a fee and will be required to describe the methodologies they plan to analyze the data, according to the report.
CMS is accepting comments on the proposed rule until 60 days after the proposed rule is published in the Federal Register, which is expected to occur on June 8.
