Commonwealth Health, an affiliate of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems in Northeastern Pennsylvania, is eliminating 80 business office positions, according to a Citizens Voice report.
The layoffs will affect employees in a business office in Plains Township, Pa., near one of Commonwealth Health's hospitals, Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) General Hospital. The system is consolidating the office's functions with those of an office in Bethlehem, Pa., according to the report. The office took calls for Commonwealth Health's area hospitals and provided technical support in a variety of areas.
Affected employees can apply for open positions in the Bethlehem office, or they will be offered severance packages based on years of service, Citizens Voice reported. The layoffs will be completed by April 11.
CHS recently completed its acquisition of Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates, and it now has 206 hospitals across 29 states.
