John T. Fox currently serves as president and CEO of Atlanta, Ga.-based Emory Healthcare. In January, Mr. Fox announced a new appointment to serve as president and CEO of Detroit-based Beaumont Health, which will begin March 25.
Emory Healthcare is Georgia's largest and most comprehensive healthcare system, and also serves as one of the South's leading academic medical centers.
Under Mr. Fox's leadership, Emory has accomplished many achievements. In 2012, its two large teaching hospitals ranked in the top 10 nationally as measured under the UHC Quality and Accountability Scorecard, and in 2013 the two Emory teaching hospitals earned the No. 2 and No. 3 rankings. It is the only system to ever have two of its hospitals ranked in the top 10 in this benchmarking database.
Additionally, Mr. Fox is credited for leading Emory to develop a culture based on fairness, transparency and diversity.
"John has built an exceptionally strong leadership team, and they will remain in place and continue to function in their current roles," said Wright Caughman, MD, CEO of Emory's Woodruff Health Sciences Center. "We are appreciative of all that John has accomplished in his 15 years at Emory, and thanks in large part to John’s leadership, Emory Healthcare is well positioned to engage, flourish and lead through the changes that will be part of the landscape of academic healthcare in the 21st century."
Before joining Emory Healthcare, Mr. Fox served as executive vice president of Clarian Health in Indianapolis, and before that as vice president and CFO of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Mr. Fox is a member of the American Health Plans Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems Administrative Board, the Health Care Systems Governing Council of the American Hospital Association, the Healthcare Institute and several other professional and civic organizations.
