CEO to know: Arthur Nizza of Meriter-UnityPoint Health

 

Arthur Nizza, DSW, will be president and CEO of Madison, Wis.-based Meriter-UnityPoint Health as of Feb. 16, 2015.

Meriter-UnityPoint Health is part of Des Moines, Iowa-based UnityPoint Health and includes a 448-bed community hospital, seven primary care clinics, home health and lab services.

Dr. Nizza will move to the Madison health system from his current role as president of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-based MidHudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center, a role he has held since May 2014. He helped transition the hospital, originally Saint Francis Hospital and Health Centers, from a standalone facility to a regional hospital of an academic medical center. MidHudson Regional encompasses a 243-bed acute care hospital, Level 2 Trauma Center, home health services, an early education center, a communicative disorders program and a cancer center.

Before it was restructured as MidHudson Regional, Dr. Nizza served as president and CEO of the nonprofit Saint Francis Hospital and Health Centers, which included 333 beds across 25 facilities. During his tenure, Dr. Nizza helped lead the hospital out of bankruptcy and oversaw the expansion of the cancer center, emergency department and inpatient care unit. 

Dr. Nizza brings extensive leadership to his current role as CEO. He also spent five years as president and CEO of Armonk, N.Y.-based Stellaris Health Network's clinically integrated network of community hospitals. Before that, he was president and CEO of Stellaris' enterprise shared services for seven years.

Dr. Nizza has held executive leadership positions at academic medical centers including Mount Sinai-NYU Health in New York City. He holds master's and doctoral degrees in social welfare from Garden City, N.J.-based Adelphi University.
