A newly elected board member resigned from the Tulare (Calif.) Local Health Care District effective Jan. 31, according to the Valley Voice.
Steve Harrell resigned after a possible conflict of interest was alleged by a law firm. Mr. Harrell was elected to two boards, the hospital board and the Tulare City Council. According to California law, a person cannot hold two public offices where there may be conflicting loyalties.
A similar situation happened at Antelope Valley Healthcare District in Lancaster, Calif., where a newly elected member was instructed by the city of Lancaster and its mayor to step down because he held two public offices that are incompatible.
Mr. Harrell declined to comment on the matter to the Valley Voice.
