The Biden administration is planning to unveil a plan for the next pandemic as soon as this month, Bloomberg reported June 14.
Four things to know:
1. The plan, which will apply lessons learned from COVID-19, will prepare the U.S. to defend against pandemics and other biological threats.
2. The plan, along with the $88.2 billion in funding the president is seeking, would change the pandemic preparedness in the U.S. by putting the White House at the center of any future response and more clearly describing responsibilities and goals.
3. The new strategy builds on President Joe Biden's previously released American Preparedness Plan.
4. The plan is aimed at avoiding confusion that has plagued the U.S. pandemic response. The government would need to invest tens of billions of dollars to back the ideas in the new plan to strengthen U.S. biodefense, people familiar with the new plan told Bloomberg.
