Question: What did you notice about your healthcare experience the last time you were at the receiving end as a patient?

Sumit Nagpal: I recall my latest healthcare experience as very disjointed; the clinician had his eyes on the computer, was unable to locate data that I personally delivered and looked overwhelmed and lost in his technology. I also did not complete my assigned exercises prior to my visit and that was not noted. So, without being judgmental, I feel the delivery could have been better and more organized and my clinician could have been more excited at the task of caring for me. I felt he was so overburdened that the joy of practicing his art was overshadowed by the technology that obligated him to document. This is why I am so passionate about overhauling the healthcare experience once and for all. To have the patient and clinician both are engaged and excited to practice healthy living.

Q: When was the last time your organization responded to concerns or needs expressed by physicians? What unfolded?

SN: Our organization continually listens and interacts with the clinicians and actually they are the cornerstone of our roadmaps and our passion to strive to deliver topnotch solutions. We have focus groups as well as actual users providing feedback in real-time for our developers to review and infuse into our solution offerings. The outcome is clinician satisfaction and the opportunity to deliver and provide quality care regardless of geography.

Q: How do you define patient engagement?

SN: Patient engagement is an all encompassing phrase that entails a patient’s cooperation in his/her own care, a clinician’s skills to support the patient as a whole and an ability and willingness to take ownership from all the various stakeholders and their assignment to support the patient and their healthcare. Motivating the patient to care and self intervene when appropriate creates an empowerment that is invaluable as well in the patient engagement process. When patients fail to do this and prefer to take a passive role in their health and wellness then through various solution offerings, we provide the necessary supportive interventions to ensure all possible opportunities were presented to the patient to ensure their health success. This includes education, support networks, technology enablers and encouragement.
