Question: What one strategic initiative will demand the most of your time and energy in 2019?
Rani Morrison: Really drilling down on length of stay/throughput. There are so many factors that affect LOS, especially in Academic Medical Centers and large cities; creativity and flexibility are essential. We have to continue to address key drivers of LOS and identify where we can make the most impact, while still delivering high quality care and keeping the patient first.
Q: Tell us about the last meaningful interaction you had with a patient.
RM: I recently worked directly with a patient and his family regarding an “ACA exempt” plan the patient had purchased; the limitations of such a plan were unbeknownst to him at the time of purchase. I was able to help the patient and his family access the care he needed despite the limitations of his “plan”, and helping them solve this issue sparked a renewed passion within me to ensure that consumers have more clear and concise information about ACA and their insurance options.
Q: Can you share some praise with us about people you work with? What does greatness look like to you when it comes to your team?
RM: Greatness looks like my team! They are compassionate, results-driven, and patient-centered. My highest performers consistently embody those characteristics. It’s a pleasure to work with them on a daily basis.
