Question: What one strategic initiative will demand the most of your time and energy in 2019?

Nishant Anand: Reducing clinical variation. Clinician led variation accounts for significant opportunity to improve the quality of care, the reliability of the care delivered, the experience of care and the cost of the care delivered.

Q: Healthcare takes a lot of heat for not innovating quickly. What's your take on this?

NA: Incremental innovation happens regularly and quickly. Disruptive innovation takes much longer. The pace of innovation is improving, but often the fragmentation in health care serves to slow down the progress.

Q: Tell us about the last meaningful interaction you had with a patient.

NA: I deal with patients on a regular basis. Helping patients navigate the system and soliciting input on ways to improve care is extremely important. Patients are at the center of everything we do. From our chronic complex clinic for pediatric patients to our behavioral health clinics we strive to provide extraordinary care for every person, every time, everywhere.
