Auburn (Wash.) Regional Medical Center is laying off 827 employees, but many of those laid off are expected to be hired by the hospital's acquirer, Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Health System, according to a Puget Sound Business Journal report.
Marce Edwards, a MultiCare spokesperson, said the layoffs are legal formalities, according to the report. MultiCare is slated to buy the 213-bed Auburn from King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services for $98 million in a deal expected to close in September, according to the report.
Ms. Edwards said MultiCare has not determined the specific number of employees who will be hired from Auburn, but employees who are retained will not encounter interruptions in their work.
