Alan Brass, former CEO of Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica, died Dec. 9 at age 74, according to his obituary published in The Columbus Dispatch.
Mr. Brass helmed ProMedica for more than a decade until his retirement in 2009.
During his tenure, he played a key role in the health system's growth, according to ProMedica President and CEO Arturo Polizzi.
"As the chief strategist and architect of ProMedica's growth and development in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Mr. Brass' visionary leadership enabled our evolution from a local hospital network to one of the nation's leading integrated delivery systems," Mr. Polizzi said in a statement shared with Becker's. "His unparalleled business acumen was only matched by his passionate commitment to ensuring the residents of our region have local access to top-notch patient care for generations to come. The revitalization and transformation of our flagship campus at ProMedica Toledo and Russell J. Ebeid Children's hospitals through the Renaissance Project, which featured the construction of a 10,000-square foot patient care tower, is just one example of his legacy that continues to serve our patients and community nearly 15 years later."
Mr. Polizzi also said Mr. Brass was more than a leader to those "who were fortunate to work with and learn from [him]. He was a trusted friend, mentor and inspiring role model. While we mourn his passing today, we also celebrate his extraordinary life and extend our deepest respect and gratitude for his service."
Prior to becoming ProMedica's CEO, Mr. Brass worked for St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare, according to The Blade.
