Alameda County Medical Center Changes Name to Alameda Health System

Oakland, Calif.-based Alameda County Medical Center has changed its name to Alameda Health System, according to a report by The Oakland Tribune.

The name change is expected to help the health system compete with rivals in the area, such as Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente and Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health, for new patients who will soon be able to afford Medi-Cal and private insurance due to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to the report.

The name was an impediment to attracting people who had a choice, Wright Lassiter III, CEO of the health system, told The Oakland Tribune.
