A total of 85 workers will lose their jobs when a specialized unit inside Summa Barberton (Ohio) Hospital closes, according to an Akron Beacon Journal report.
The specialty unit, which is for patients that require long stays to recover from serious illnesses and injuries, is slated to close by the end of May, according to the report.
Jim Gosky, a spokesman with Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health System, told the Akron Beacon Journal that patients in the Barberton unit will likely be transferred to the specialty hospital in Akron or another long-term acute-care hospital.
Mr. Gosky also said in the report that Summa Barberton Hospital is considering options for the unit, including leasing the space.
