Reliant Medical Group, an independent, ambulatory integrated health system in Worcester, Mass., laid off 78 workers Sept. 9 as part of a larger "expenses-reduction effort," according to a Telegram & Gazette report.
Here are three things to know about the layoffs.
1. They affected "clinical and non-clinical positions across the organization." Three physicians were among the 78 employees laid off.
2. The layoffs represent approximately 3 percent of the healthcare company's workforce.
3. They were implemented to downsize and cut costs. "With these reductions and other efforts to streamline our workforce, we believe we have 'right-sized' our organization relative to patient demand for services and revenue," said Leon Josephs, MD, acting CEO of Reliant Medical Group, said, according to the report.
