The following healthcare layoffs or layoff plans were reported by Becker's Hospital Review in March.
1. Grays Harbor Community Hospital lays off another 23 employees
Aberdeen, Wash.-based Grays Harbor Community Hospital laid off 21 unionized employees and two Harbor Medical Group employees as it continues efforts toward financial viability.
2. Detroit Medical Center continues reorganization with layoffs, additional frontline workers: 7 things to know
Detroit Medical Center CEO Tony Tedeschi, MD, updated employees on the health system's reorganization plan in a March 19 memo. Dr. Tedeschi in January revealed plans to cut up to 300 jobs. At the time, Dr. Tedeschi said DMC had already eliminated 14 management positions and would make additional job cuts in the coming weeks.
3. UT Health East Texas lays off 400 workers
Tyler-based UT Health East Texas will lay off 400 workers, or about 5 percent of the system's workforce, to improve the organization's financial picture.
4. Philips to lay off 65 Ohio employees, anticipates additional layoffs later this year: 4 things to know
Cleveland-based Philips Medical Systems, part of Amsterdam-based Royal Philips, plans to lay off at least 65 employees April 20, according to a Feb. 20 letter the company sent to state officials.
5. CovenantCare to close at home care facility, lay off 67 workers
Westminster, Colo.-based CovenantCare at Home will close May 17, resulting in 67 employees losing their jobs.
6. Ascension Michigan lays off 500 hospital workers: 7 things to know
Ascension Michigan, part of St. Louis-based Ascension, laid off 500 employees, or roughly 2 percent of its 26,000-person workforce.
7. Colorado hospital slashes 272 jobs, scales back services
St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo, Colo., part of Centennial, Colo.-based Centura Health, plans to lay off 272 employees, or about 34 percent of its 800-person workforce.
