Five out of 100 Tennessee health systems and healthcare companies are headed by a woman, a survey from The Tennessean found.
The analysis included companies like Ascension subsidiary Saint Thomas Health in Nashville, Tenn., and Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealthcare’s subsidiary Community Plan of Tennessee. Thirty-one interviews with women leaders in healthcare were conducted.
Below are three findings from The Tennessean's report.
1. At least five healthcare companies included in the analysis did not have women listed to their executive teams.
2. Eighteen percent of board seats in the 100 healthcare companies reviewed in the analysis were held by women.
3. Thirty-one women leaders in healthcare told The Tennessean stigmas that women cannot hold leadership positions because they are too emotional or tied up with familial obligations persist.
