Healthcare job cuts are up 83 percent in the first four months of 2023 compared to the same time last year. These are five health systems reporting executive job cuts during that period:
Altru Health in Grand Forks, N.D. trimmed executive numbers from nine to six in April and incentivized 34 other employees to take early retirement.
Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, N.C. asked its chief nursing officer, chief financial officer and chief operating officer to step down from their roles in April after an assessment of the hospital's performance over the past year.
Novant Health in Winston-Salem, N.C. laid off about 50 workers, including multiple C-level executives, the health system confirmed to Becker's in March.
Valley Health in Winchester, Va. announced in February it would eliminate 31 administrative positions as part of consolidation of the organization's leadership team and administrative roles. Since January, about 100 positions at Valley Health have been eliminated through consolidation, attrition and elimination.
Jefferson Health in Philadelphia plans to downsize from five divisions to three in an effort to flatten management and become more efficient, resulting primarily in executive job cuts, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Jan. 12.
