Tennova Healthcare will cut 45 jobs in its hospitals in the Knoxville, Tenn., area, according to a report published by Knoxville News Sentinel.
The affected jobs, which provide "prearrival services," such as registration, will move to a "centralized location to improve and expand the scheduling process for hospital-based services," said Jerry Askew, Tennova's vice president of external relations, according to the report. He did not specify where the services will be located.
"Business functions that require face-to-face interactions with patients will remain at the hospital. We are focused on carefully managing our operations so we can continue our commitment to serving the healthcare needs of Knoxville and the surrounding communities," he said.
The move is expected to take place in mid-October.
Mr. Askew said a number of the affected employees have been moved to other jobs within Tennova, according to the report.
The job cuts come as Tennova's parent company, Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, is working with advisers to explore various options with financial sponsors, including the possible sale of its business.
