One common trait among successful people is the habit and the desire for continuous learning. They devote real time and energy into learning, reflection, goal-setting and guidance from mentors to ensure continued success, according to Entrepreneur magazine.
While the idea of continuous learning may sound appealing, many people think they don't have enough time. However, by integrating certain habits into your daily routine, it is possible to maximize learning opportunities without setting aside much more extra time.
Here are three habits to foster continuous learning, according to Entrepreneur.
1. Read book summaries. Reading summaries of books is succinct and requires less time than it takes to read books in their entirety, but doing so still provides the book's essential takeaways and details. You can browse book lists from reliable sources like The New York Times Best Sellers and Metacritic, then search the titles on summary services, such as Blinkist and Summary.com, according to the report.
2. Learn to listen — and listen to learn. Listening to podcasts is an entertaining and efficient way of staying informed, and they can be turned on and off to fit your schedule. Entrepreneur recommends NPR All Songs Considered, NYTimes Book Review, The Time Ferriss Show and TED Talks.
3. Talk to experts. The best way to learn about a topic is to speak with someone who is an expert in the field. Broaden your social and professional network by seeking a community of friends and colleagues from whom you can learn, and schedule regular get-togethers, such as coffee or lunch dates. When you're facing a specific challenge and need advice, look through your contact list to identify who might be able to off the best guidance.
