A bipartisan group of governors released a statement Tuesday targeting GOP healthcare efforts and calling on Congress to include governors in any future discourse regarding healthcare, according to The Hill.
The governors behind the statement were Gov. John Kasich, R-Ohio, Gov. Steve Bullock, D-Mont., Gov. Larry Hogan, R-Md., Gov. John Bel Edwards, D-La., Gov. Bill Walker, I-Alaska, Gov. John Hickenlooper, D-Co., Gov. Charlie Baker, R-Mass., Gov. Tom Wolf, D-Pa., Gov. Phil Scott, R-Vt., Gov. Terry McAuliffe, D-VA., and Gov. Brian Sandoval, R-Nev.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has undergone criticism by lawmakers of both parties for the closed nature with which he drafted the Better Care Reconciliation ACt. Efforts to pass the bill were thwarted when four Republican senators announced they would vote against a motion to bring the bill to the Senate floor.
"Going forward, it is critically important that governors are brought to the table to provide input, and we stand ready to work with lawmakers in an open, bipartisan way to provie better insurance for all Americans," the statement read.
