As president and CEO of Amerinet since May 2007, Todd Ebert manages the strategic vision and operation director of a 32,000 member group purchasing organization which helps members reduce healthcare costs and improve quality. An expert on healthcare efficiency and cost, Todd Ebert told Becker's Hospital Review in June that under the new health reform law, organizations will be pressured to evaluate and take advantage of supply chain savings opportunities.
"If you went back eight or 10 years and surveyed healthcare CEOs on what's important to them, the supply chain probably wouldn't make the top 10," he said. "Now, you would see it in the top five. Leaders have recognized the opportunity to reduce expense and cost through tactics such as standardization and product utilization."
Finances aren't the only thing on Mr. Ebert's mind: He also recognizes the introduction of healthcare reform means hospitals must increase levels of patient safety. "Faced with a future of new regulations and healthcare reform, it is becoming even more apparent that for healthcare organizations to be truly successfully in the future, increased productivity and revenues need to be matched with a measurable level of quality and patient safety," he said in an interview with Fairfield Medical Center.
In order to improve patient safety measurements, nearly 170 executives at Amerinet member facilities responded to an online survey on patient safety and quality. Amerinet executives discussed the results at a roundtable in Feb. 2010, concluding that to prioritize patient safety, organizations must be committed, transparent and inherently engineered for safe practices.
Mr. Ebert has been with Amerinet since 1991 and served in progressive leadership roles including vice president of Amerinet's pharmacy program, president of Amerinet's private-label company, president of operations and finally president and COO before assuming his current role as CEO.
He is currently chair-elect of the Health Industry Group Purchasing Association and a noted industry expert on reform in the purchasing industry. Prior to joining Amerinet, he worked as vice president and general manger of a specialty healthcare product logistics company and owned and operated a nursing home clinical pharmaceutical consulting company.
Mr. Ebert received his master's in pharmacy administration from the University of Utah.
