John E. Smithhisler, president and CEO of St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Mass., has announced his resignation, according to a Telegram report.
Vanguard Health Systems, the parent company and owner of St. Vincent, offered Mr. Smithhisler another position in its Chicago office, but the CEO turned down the position and instead resigned, according to the report. Mr. Smithhisler has served at St. Vincent since 2005, when he came to Worcester from an interim CEO position at a Vanguard hospital in Arizona.
The hospital board will meet this week to choose an interim president and CEO.
