University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center raised $1.2 billion as part of a fundraising campaign the cancer center launched in 2006, according to a Houston Chronicle report.
The campaign, which is mostly aimed at research, garnered 199 gifts of at least $1 million and three of at least $50 million, according to the report.
"This money will have a substantial impact in the fight against cancer," said Ronald DePinho, MD, president of M.D. Anderson, said in the report. "It will allow us to establish world-leading capabilities in areas of tremendous unmet needs, areas that ordinarily are very difficult to secure funding for."
