Twenty-four percent of hospital executives and 11 percent of cardiovascular professionals said recruiting cardiovascular professionals is among the biggest challenges of running a cardiovascular unit, according to a survey by the American College of Cardiology.
The ACC surveyed 300 hospital executives and cardiovascular professionals representing 291 hospitals and medical facilities. Twenty-one percent of all respondents said financial challenges related to the economy and/or reimbursement issues were top challenges.
Other data points include the following:
• Forty percent of hospital administrators reported their facility had acquired or considered acquiring a cardiology practice in the past two years.
• Twenty percent of hospital administrators said they are considering acquiring a cardiovascular practice in the near future.
• Seventy-seven percent of hospital administrators said it is extremely or very important for cardiologists to have earned the designation of Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
• Seventy-two percent of hospital administrators said they are somewhat more likely or much more likely to hire a cardiologist with an FACC designation.
