A recent study published in the American Heart Journal found that almost 70,000 Americans die every year because they do not receive recommended, evidence-based therapies for heart failure.
Six physicians at UCLA's Geffen School of Medicine authored the study and stated that six therapies for heart failure could have prevented that total death figure. The six therapies include angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor/angiotensin receptor antagonist, β-blockers, aldosterone antagonists, hydralazine/isorbide dinitrat, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization therapy.
The research also showed that nearly 2.7 million heart failure patients were eligible for those therapies but did not receive treatment.
