Officials at Providence Hospital Northeast in Columbia, S.C., said the hospital will end labor and delivery services in order to increase resources for orthopedic services, according to a State report.
The hospital's labor and delivery department will officially close at the end of this year due to low volume of deliveries. Affected employees will be offered jobs within the hospital, according to the report. The change will add 38 hospital beds and 50-70 staff members to the hospital's Orthopaedic and Neuro Spine Institute.
