Mass. General to Build Targeted Therapy Cancer Center With $10M Grant

A $10 million grant by retired biotechnology leader and trustee board member Henri A. Termeer will help Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston build the Henri and Belinda Termeer Center for Targeted Therapies, according to a Boston Globe report.

The center, which will operate as part of the hospital's current cancer center, will initially focus on drugs specific to the genetic makeup of tumors, including breast cancers, lung cancers and leukemias. Physicians and scientists also plan to test a new generation of targeted drugs for cancer care.

The hospital will use the grant to renovate the seventh floor of its Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care, purchase medical equipment, recruit new employees and offset the cost of its future clinical trials.

Hospital officials hope to raise an additional $10 million over the next two years to support the new center.
