Children's Medical Center Dallas has announced it has launched the state's first ever neonatal telemedicine program, according to a report from Martketwatch.
The program will allow Texas community hospitals 24-hour access to Dallas-based University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center neonatologists through medical-quality teleconferencing equipment. Part of the program's purpose will be to reduce the need for infant transport to Children's to reduce stress on patients and families, according to the report.
Children's operates the highest level neonatal intensive care unit as designated by the American Academy of Pediatrics. It is the only major neonatal tertiary-care center in north Texas, according to the report.
