Northampton, Mass.-based Cooley Dickenson Hospital is seeking state approval to close its pediatric inpatient unit, according to a report from The Republican.
Cooley Dickenson is citing low inpatient volumes and improvements in medical technology decreasing the necessity of inpatient stays as the chief reasons for the closure.
The unit will continue to serve pediatric inpatients until a final decision is made. If the unit closes, Cooley Dickenson will arrange any necessary patient transfers to nearby hospitals.
