Cincinnati Children's Uses iPads to Reduce Patient Anxiety During Imaging Scans

Cincinnati Children's Hospital has implemented a program that uses games and apps on iPads to distract patients during scanning procedures.

The iPad program was started to reduce the need for sedation during scans and imaging for pediatric patients. iPad games and programming have greatly reduced anxiety and fear among children undergoing unfamiliar procedures, according to clinician statements in a news release.

Cincinnati Children's has recently improved the program by acquiring iPad stands for the devices, which alleviate the need for a parent or caregiver to hold the iPad during procedures and increase the time for which iPad can be utilized.
