15 Recent Cardiology Openings, Expansions and Transactions

Here are 15 cardiology center openings, expansions and transactions that have occured in the past five weeks, starting with the most recent.

1. Petersburg, Va.-based Southside Regional Medical Center received state approval to open an open-heart surgery program that will provide bypass surgery and heart valve repair services. 

2. Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital opened a $250 million expansion tower to replace several outdated specialty spaces in its main facility.

3. LaGrangeville, N.Y.-based Health Quest System launched a cardiovascular institute across its hospitals.

4. Lexington-based University of Kentucky HealthCare and Lexington-based Appalachian Regional Healthcare partnered to creat extnesion services with UK's Lexington-based Gill Heart Institute.

5. La Mesa, Calif.-based Sharp Grossmont Hospital began construction on a new heart and vascular center.

6. Leigh Acres, Fla.-based Leigh Regional Medical Center opened a cardiac stress lab on its campus.

7. University of Florida Health at Gainsville unveiled plans to build a neurologica and cardiovascular specialty tower on its UF Health Shands Hospital campus, also in Gainsville.

8. Columbus, Ohio-based Dublin Methodist Hospital will put a cardiac rehabilitation program in place that has previously been adopted at other locations in Columbus-based OhioHealth's network.

9. Edgewood, Ky.-based St. Elizabeth Healthcare is planning a $13.8 million heart and vascular institute at St. Elizabeth Edgewood.

10. Baton Rouce, La.-based Our Lady of The Lake Regional Medical Center dedicated its new heart and vascular center, which is scheduled to open some time during fall 2013. 

11. University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill-affiliated practices Wake Heart & Vascular Associates and Rex Heart & Vascular Specialists combined to form North Carolina Heart and Vascular in Raleigh, N.C.

12. Ohio State University Hospital East in Columbus and Columbus Neighborhood Health Centers partnered to increase patients' access to cardiac care with the intention of reducing readmissions.

13. Bangor-based Eastern Maine Medical Center announced a cardiac telemedicine partnership with Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. 

14. Valdosta-based South Georgia Medical Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 11 for its new Dasher Memorial Heart Center and Patient Tower.

15. Boston-based Tufts Medical Center and Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health will build three new cardiovascular cetners in Worcester, Framingham and Natick, all in Massachusetts.
