Robert M. Cothren, PhD, has been appointed chief technology officer for Cal eConnect, which is utilizing a $38.8 million federal grant to implement health information exchange services and policies.
In this role, Mr. Cothren serves as principal for the organization's health information technology and exchange projects. He comes to Cal eConnect from IT solutions provider Cognosante, where he has been chief technology officer since 2008.
Mr. Cothren has also been an advisor to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT on current HIE architectures, approaches to governance of widespread HIE and standards development and early analysis of the technical requirements for meaningful use of electronic health records.
