A study by the Center to Advance Palliative Care found 63 percent of U.S. hospitals with more than 50 beds had a palliative care team in 2009 —an increase of 138.3 percent since 2000, when just 24.5 percent of hospitals had palliative care teams.
CAPC's analysis also found the prevalence of hospital palliative care programs is lowest in the southern region of the U.S., where only 51 percent of hospitals have programs. In the Northeast, the region with the highest prevalence of programs, 73 percent of hospitals have palliative care teams.
