New York's St. Joseph's Hospital Plans $3M Expansion

St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, N.Y., is planning a $3 million expansion and renovation plan, which includes developing several new services at the hospital, according to a report in the Star-Gazette.

Work on renovating the hospital's emergency department and creating a peritoneal dialysis department has already begun. Some other plans, such as relocating the hospital's inpatient acute physical rehabilitation services and expanding the hospital's chronic dialysis unit, will begin in early 2010, according to the report.

The plan for the renovations, which features a 16-point "wish list" for completion by 2011, was developed while St. Joseph's was still in talks with Guthrie Healthcare System over a possible merger. The merger was called off last week.

Officials from St. Joseph's say that the renovation plans will be funded by St. Joseph's and federal and state grants, according to the report. The expansion will not require the hospital to construct an additional building.
