Illinois County Board Approves Recommendation for Mercy Health CON, Following Recommendation of Centegra CON

The McHenry County Board has approved a recommendation to the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board "commending" Janesville, Wis.-based Mercy Health System's certificate of need request to build a hospital in Crystal Lake, Ill., according to a Northwest Herald report.

The Board previously approved a similar recommendation for Crystal Lake-based Centegra Health System's CON request to build a facility in nearby Huntley, Ill.

Both systems have proposed 128-bed hospitals, and both filed CON applications on Dec. 29.

However, the influence the Board holds with the IHFSRB is unclear. "I don't think any of us are qualified to conclude if a hospital is necessary here or there," said one Board member in the report.
