Janesville, Wis.-based Mercy Health System has filed a certificate of need to construct a new, 128-bed hospital in Crystal Lake, according to a Northwest Herald report.
The move came at the same time Centegra Health System, also based in Crystal Lake, filed a CON to build a new hospital in Huntley, Ill.
The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board will now review both applications.
In 2004, Mercy attempted to gain approval to build a hospital in the area but the plans fell through.
