America's Health Insurance Plans, a trade group of health insurers, spent $2.3 million on lobbying in the second quarter of 2010, which covers the three months immediately following the passing of healthcare reform at the end of March, according to a report by Bloomberg Businessweek.
Second-quarter lobbying spend for the group dropped 15 percent from $2.7 million in the first quarter of the year, but is up 22 percent from $1.9 million in the second quarter of 2009.
Second-quarter lobbying efforts covered Medicaid and Medicare issues and the debate over the continuation of COBRA benefits.
AHIP's lobbying budget trumps that of the Federation of American Hospitals, which represents investor-owned hospitals. FAH spent $660,000 on lobbying in the second quarter, down 16 percent from the first quarter of the year and down 33 percent from $980,00 in the second quarter of last year, according to a separate Bloomberg Businessweek report.
