Construction Begins on Replacement Facility for Mississippi's Highland Community Hospital

Construction has begun on a new 60-bed replacement facility for Highland Community Hospital in Picayune, Miss., according to a Hattiesburg American report.

The 60-bed hospital is being financed by a $70 million bond issue. The new facility will include an expanded emergency department, obstetrics unit, surgical unit and additional diagnostic technology. Two new physician office buildings will also be built on the campus, according to the report.

Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Miss., acquired what was then Crosby Memorial Hospital in 2006. It renamed the facility Highland Memorial. The construction of the new facility is part of Forrest General's plan to enhance healthcare services in the area.
