Nearly 1,700 hospitals participated in RACTrac since AHA began collecting data in Jan. 2010. Participation in the survey was generally consistent with hospital representation in each of the four RAC regions.
Here are some findings detailed in AHA’s RACTrac report:
- 75 percent of hospitals are experiencing RAC activity, and the majority of them are general medical and surgical hospitals.
- Medical record requests made up the majority of RAC activity through 3Q 2010. On average, region B experienced 50 percent more medical record requests per reporting hospital.
- Nearly half of all hospitals with RAC activity reported receiving at least one underpayment determination.
