1. St. Mary's Children's Hospital in Bayside, N.Y. — $114 million expansion. St. Mary's Children's hospital broke ground last week on a project that will add a pavilion and rehabilitation wing to the hospital. The hospital will also expand its exterior entrance. Though the expansion will not increase the number of beds at the hospital, administrators expect St. Mary's Children's to add hundreds of jobs following its completion, scheduled for 2012.
2. Mercy Walworth Hospital and Medical Center in Lake Geneva, Wis. — $45 million expansion. Mercy Walworth Hospital and Medical Center's expansion, which broke ground in June 2010, is making progress toward its scheduled 2013 completion. The $45 million project will expand the facility by 140,000 square feet and grow the inpatient space from six to 25 beds. The hospital will also gain a sleep disorders lab, cafeteria, chapel and clinic space.
3. Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett in Tennessee — $34 million expansion. Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett broke ground on a $34 million expansion project at the end of September. The project will bring 96 patient beds and 83,000 square feet to the hospital, which opened in June 2004 with 100 beds. The new facility is expected to bring around 155 full-time jobs at an average salary of $44,720.
4. Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains, N.J. — $24 million expansion. Chilton Memorial Hospital's expansion, scheduled for completion in 2013, will add more single rooms, redesigned orthopedic and cardiovascular units and a comprehensive breast center to the hospital. The plan will not increase the size of the five-story building but will improve the existing facility, administrators say.

Hamilton Memorial Hospital is putting the finishing touches on its $18.5 million expansion and renovation project, which will add new equipment to the hospital and increase floor space. Summerlin Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas has announced plans to expand its 10-room surgery wing that specializes in minimally invasive laparoscopic operations. The expansion will include the addition of four surgical suites to house the da Vinci Surgical System. Groundbreaking is scheduled for mid-2011, and the first phase should be completed in 2012.
