Alice Pope, executive vice president and CFO of Kingsport, Tenn.-based Wellmont Health System, will leave her post to become the new CFO of HonorHealth in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Here are five things to know about Ms. Pope.
1. She will continue serving in her Wellmont leadership position, which she has held for more than three years, for the next 60 days and will assist in the transition.
2. Of her decision to leave, Ms. Pope said in a prepared statement, "This decision wasn't easy for a variety of reasons and is based solely on achieving my personal and professional goals at a key point in my life." She added, "I wanted to make a decision now that would position me well for the future. I am very thankful for my long tenure with Wellmont and for the opportunity to grow professionally here and develop so many strong and meaningful relationships."
3. Ms. Pope has worked for Wellmont since 2000. Prior to becoming Wellmont's CFO, she was the health system's senior vice president of finance, with oversight of the revenue cycle and managed care components.
4. During her tenure at Wellmont, she restructured the health system's debt to lower Wellmont's interest rate to about 3 percent, and was involved in implementing the Epic EHR and revamping of the organization's revenue cycle using that platform, health system officials said.
5. Ms. Pope's departure comes amid the proposed merger of Wellmont and Johnson City, Tenn.-based Mountain States Health Alliance. Ms. Pope was designated to serve as the proposed new health system's CFO. Given her departure, that CFO position will be evaluated by both systems, according to a news release. The change is not expected to impact the proposed merger itself.
