Mary Shehan, DNP, RN, has been named CNO of Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, according to Nurse.com.
Here are five things to know about Dr. Shehan.
1. Dr. Shehan began the CNO role at Weiss July 20.
2. As CNO, Dr. Shehan will lead Weiss' shared leadership model and professional nursing practice efforts, as well as oversee the delivery of nursing and patient care.
3. She has more than 20 years of senior leadership experience in nursing. Most recently, she worked at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago as senior vice president and chief nursing executive. At Swedish, she led the hospital to Magnet designation, fostered a nursing shared governance program, established a service line leadership accountability process, and was integral in helping the hospital achieve Stroke Center and Pain Center accreditation, according to the report. She also served as nursing home administrator for the hospital's extended care facility. Prior to Swedish Covenant Hospital, she held clinical and leadership roles at Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines, Ill., and clinical and nursing teaching positions at Triton Community College in River Grove, Ill., and Chicago Catholic hospitals.
4. In addition to her role as CNO, Dr. Shehan will continue in her role as an associate professor to the adjunct faculties at Rush University College of Nursing in Chicago as well as North Park University College of Nursing, also in Chicago.
5. She was recently appointed to a position as a commissioner for the North River Expanded Mental Health Services Program.
