Virginia system taps dual COO-CNO

Fishersville, Va.-based Augusta Health has promoted Crystal Farmer, MSN, RN, to serve as both chief operating officer and chief nursing officer.

Ms. Farmer has been serving as the health system's CNO since 2018, according to a Feb. 16 news release. She assumed COO duties and began her dual role on Jan. 1.

During her tenure as CNO, Ms. Farmer increased nurse engagement to 75%; led clinical teams through COVID-19; expanded surgical services to the Augusta Health Outpatient Pavilion; and improved patient experience.

"In addition to responsibilities as chief nursing officer at Augusta Health, Crystal will also now play a vital leadership role in the day-to-day operations," said Mary Mannix, the system's president and CEO. "Farmer is a strong leader and is passionate about operational excellence, professional development, patient care best practices, and staff engagement. She will undoubtedly steer Augusta Health toward new heights of excellence and patient-centered care."
