Pamela Sutton-Wallace, acting executive vice president for health affairs for Richmond-based University of Virginia Health System and CEO of UVA Medical Center, is leaving for a leadership role at New York City-based NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in November.
Ms. Sutton-Wallace will become senior vice president and regional COO of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, according to a letter to staff written by James E. Ryan, president of University of Virginia.
She joined UVA Medical Center in July 2014, prior to which she was senior vice president of hospital operations at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C.
Under her leadership, UVA Medical Center was named the No. 1 hospital in Virginia by U.S. News & World Report for four consecutive years. Ms. Sutton-Wallace also established a service line structure that provided a framework for partnership between the medical center and UVA School of Medicine.
In the letter, Mr. Ryan said that Ms. Sutton-Wallace's departure is not related to the report published yesterday revealing that UVA Health System has sued thousands of former patients over medical debt.
Ms. Sutton-Wallace will continue to lead until her departure. Chris Ghaemmaghami, MD, CMO of UVA Medical Center and senior associate dean for clinical affairs for the health system, will then take over as interim CEO of the medical center.
