USMD Health System, a physician-led integrated healthcare system in Irving, Texas, has announced the appointment of Jim Berend as CFO and executive vice president.
Here are three things to know about Mr. Berend.
1. In his position, Mr. Berend will oversee USMD's finance functions and activities.
2. Mr. Berend has more than 35 years of experience in healthcare finance, having served as a CFO, consultant, auditor and partner at international accounting and consulting firms. He has extensive experience in all aspects of healthcare accounting and finance across the care continuum.
3. Prior to joining USMD, Mr. Berend was CFO and executive vice president of a company operating surgical hospitals in Texas. In that role, he was responsible for finance and accounting, centralized billing office, materials management and hospital financial operations. He previously was the partner in charge of the healthcare practice at Grant Thornton and the healthcare consulting practice at Ernst & Young in Dallas. Mr. Berend started his career at and spent nearly 25 years at Arthur Andersen, beginning as a staff accountant, rising to partner and then leading the healthcare practice in Dallas-Fort Worth.
