After 18 years as executive vice president and CIO of Pittsburgh-based UPMC, Dan Drawbaugh has resigned.
Mr. Drawbaugh is leaving to "pursue other professional interests," according to a UPMC release. Ed McCallister, who currently serves as UPMC's senior vice president of enterprise applications and business services, has been appointed interim CIO.
During his tenure, Mr. Drawbaugh focused on implementing cutting-edge technologies to improve patient care throughout the 21-hospital system. In an April interview with Becker's Hospital Review, he said his team's biggest accomplishment at UPMC had been "the transformation of [how we deliver] healthcare by leveraging IT and turning the data into intelligence to impact how patients are cared for."
Mr. Drawbaugh is not the only technology executive to resign from UPMC recently. Earlier this month, Chief Innovation Officer Rebecca Kaul left after three months in the role.
