The University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington has appointed Doug Gentile, MD, as CMIO.
Here are four things to know about Dr. Gentile.
1. As CMIO, Dr. Gentile will oversee the information services teams who work on projects in the clinical areas of UVMC. He will also serve as the liaison between medical center providers and information services staff who work on the EMR.
2. Dr. Gentile, who is board-certified in both internal medicine and emergency medicine, has worked in medical informatics for two decades.
3. Previously, Dr. Gentile was medical director for clinical information systems at UVMC, a position where he oversaw staff who develop computer information systems for various applications such as clinical decision-making, electronic imagery, clinical documentation and provider order entry systems.
4. In addition to his career in medical informatics, he has had a 30-year career in emergency medicine. As he takes on his new CMIO role, he will continue to see patients in UVMC's emergency department.
