University Hospitals names Dr. William Brien chief quality and medical officer

Cleveland-based University Hospitals hired William W. Brien, MD, to serve as chief quality and medical officer.

Dr. Brien most recently served as senior vice president, medical operations and chief clinical officer at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center in Houston. He was also a clinical professor of orthopedic surgery at Houston-based Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Brien's previous experience includes serving as director of the orthopedic center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he worked for 21 years. He served as the mayor of the City of Beverly Hills, Calif., from 2012 to 2013, and he is a fellow and member of the board of councilors for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Brien completed a fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He succeeds William Annable, MD, who is retiring in 2018 and assisting in the transition until then.
